Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. Hebrews 11:1. FAITH 11 has been our vision/theme for the year 2011. Hebrews 11 provides us with a catalogue of heroes of the faith. Ordinary men and women with glaringly noticeable failures, yet marked by extraordinary belief in the consistency, character and covenant keeping nature of Israel’s God.
As the end of 2011 draws closer, be encouraged that God sees, values and rewards His people who have walked by faith and taken steps of obedience out of faith.
In February of 2011 I wrote in the newsletter; “I wonder? …what will God do in the 11th year since coming here, the first genuine new year of a new decade. The giants’ shoulders who this congregation stand upon (the older generation) have taken their own faith steps over some 50 years and now it’s time for this generation to take some steps of their own.”
Today is Vision Sunday, and it’s a day to answer the question posed back in February.
You’ll hear of kids ministry multiplying with extra Sunday times and great camps, you’ll hear of youth ministry consolidating and young people growing in their faith. Faith steps in overseas mission being accomplished, new staff being appointed, and playgroup bursting at the seams.
You’ll hear of walking compassionately with the hurting and women’s ministry coming of age. Stories of ministry to Schools, sharing the love of Christ practically and providing food for those in need will inspire you that we’re part of a team making a difference.
Small Groups ministry, Men’s and pathways will all have something to say together with many others – God has been at work in 2011 and He’s not finished. Last week was a momentous day in the life of our church with Paul and Michele coming amongst us. We look forward to a fruitful future as God unveils His plans to take us on as a church in the years to come.
God calls us to faith, because He is the author of faithfulness Himself. May we today pause and give thanks for the great things He has done.
